Scanner Extension Setup Guide

This guide walks you through installing and configuring the Scanner Extension and Scanner Host required to use hardware scanners inside Nectain. The setup takes just a few minutes and ensures stable communication between your local device and the Nectain platform.

You’ll learn what prerequisites you need, how to install the Chrome extension, how to set up the scanner host on your computer, and how to verify that everything is working correctly. Once configured, the scanner settings apply to your device and can be used across all your Nectain profiles.

If this is your first time connecting a scanner to Nectain, follow the steps below in order. If you face any issues, our support team is ready to help.

Prerequisites

Before you install the scanner extension, ensure the following:

• Your operating system is Windows. Tip: If you’re using macOS or Linux, install Windows using a virtual machine. You can use Parallels to install Windows on your device.
• You have the Google Chrome browser installed on your device.

Install the scanner extension

1. Open the Google Chrome browser.
2. Install the UBExtension by following the link.
3. In the upper-right corner, select the download icon to open the download history, and then select the file named UBExtension.crx.
4. Select Download suspicious file.
5. In the Search bar, enter chrome://extensions/.
6. In the upper-right corner, turn on the Developer mode toggle.
7. In the upper-right corner, select the download icon to open the download history.
8. Drag and drop the UBExtension.crx file to the All extensions section.
9. Select Add extension.

   

10. Go to your Nectainium platform. In the upper-right corner, select your profile picture. Select Settings, and then select Scanner settings.
11. In the Error window that appears, select DOWNLOAD INSTALLER.
12. In the pop-up window that appears, select ubhostscanner.msi.
13. Log out from your Nectainium account: in the upper-right corner, select your profile picture and select Log out.

    

14. Log in to your Nectainium account again. In the upper-right corner, select your profile picture. Select Settings, and then select Scanner settings.
15. If you did all the steps correctly, you will see the Scanner settings window.

The installed scanner settings apply only to this device; however, you can switch between different Nectainium profiles and still use the settings.
